Today, 5/21/17, I took another trip to Ithaca to visit the Farmers' Market. This place is adorable. Here there were many local farmers, artists, and entrepreneurs behind stands selling their own goods. Walking around looking at all the homemade goods was very cool. There was homemade ice creams, sauces, and even quilts and necklaces. I did not end up buying anything, but the real reason for the venture to the market was to talk to local organic farmers. There were three stand that really caught my eye and I was able to talk to very interesting people. The first people we asked to speak to were two guys. They farm locally on Senaca Lake. Their farm is called Six Circles Farm. They said they started farming with their friends and created a business out of it. Their main products grown is garlics. This past week has been full of trips to Ithaca to explore the woods and find hidden waters. On Friday,  5/19/17, a bunch of my friends from Elmira traveled to Ithaca to a beautiful waterfall. In order to get to the waterfall there was a bit of a strenuous walk. We had to climb over and under some sketchy areas. I personally was out of breath from walking up a steep hill. Of course this tired me out, but from the top of the climb the view was amazing. While looking down on the waterfall I was actually feeling nauseous, I don't know why because usually I don't mind heights. The top was only the beginning of our adventure. Once we started our journey again, we had to climb down the other side of the hill. There was a part where we had to slide on our butts to get down to the bottom. While in Ithaca, NY my friends and I were looking for a healthy option for lunch. We heard from a few people at our school that Corelife Eatery had just opened up there. We decided to try it. Corelife is full of clean yummy food. Looking through the menu I automatically knew what I wanted. My eyes landed right on the tuna poke bowl. Sadly, when I was ordering they told me that they were out of tuna, so I had to make an impulse buy. I decided to get one of the salads. On the side they offer a side of bread and of course I took it. To top off my meal I had a cup of delicious lemonade. Each bite made me want more. On Wednesday a group of my friends and I headed to Ithaca to the venture through the gorges. There were six of us who decided to go and it was a blast. A few of the girls that came with me were Rachel Grampp, Tiia, Gyll, Sarah Hughson, and Audrey Clark. The small hike started from a parking lot that had a walking bridge to pass over a small spring. Once you passed it you went to the trails. The trails were pretty level and not too strenuous. On the way to our destination we found a garden snake and we picked it up (I did not touch that thing I am terrified no matter how harmless it is). We also saw many other creatures in their habitat as well. After a while the path stopped so we were confused as to where to go next. Luckily a group of Cornell students who have been there before were passing us told us the next steps. I thought they were joking, but they went ahead and starting climbing. On Monday of this week, a couple of my friends and I went to a local organic cafe called Turtle Leaf Cafe. Here there are many different delicious options. They serve breakfast and lunch, but do not serve dinner as they close at 3pm on most days. This place is one of my favorite around town because it is local foods and not a chain restaurant. Turtle leaf reminds me a lot of the local diners in my home state of Maine. While ordering, there are so many options that sounds amazing that it makes it hard to decide to pick. My go to options for lunch is a pineapple mango spinach smoothie with a strawberry turkey brie panini or a strawberry almond salad. For breakfast my favorite is getting two eggs over easy with wheat toast and a pineapple mango spinach smoothie. Since we went early enough for the breakfast menu I ordered my regular breakfast. This weeks trip, our class ventured to the woods to embrace the trees. For this task we had to be blindfolded while a partner guided you around to hug a tree. Once you really got to know your tree, your partner would guide you back to the common meeting point where we all started. After being back at the starting point, you had to search for the tree that you hugged. For my group, I had two partners due to the uneven number of people in class that day. Luckily they were my very close friends, so we made this assignment fun. First, I was guiding one of my friend, Gyll, to find the perfect tree for her. Of course my other friend, Tiia, who was also helping guide found the hardest path to follow. We managed to guide Gyll, keep in mind that she was blind folded, down a fairly steep hill, across a stream with out getting wet, find a tree, and get her back to the starting point with out her falling.
